The Music Never Stopped: Roots Of The Grateful Dead (LP Vinyl)
$29.95
The Grateful Dead were always as much curators as they were creators, absorbing a century of American music and refracting it back through their own kaleidoscopic lens. Hearing these source recordings, from the artists who first cut them, is a reminder of just how deep that well ran: old-time string bands, New Orleans second-line rhythms, Merle Haggard's Bakersfield twang, and Delta blues all living comfortably under the same roof.
The original versions of the Grateful Dead's best-loved cover tunes, performed by the artists who made them. Spanning blues, country, folk, and rock, The Music Never Stopped traces the deep American roots that shaped the Dead's sound across five decades.
Lovingly compiled by Henry Kaiser, David Gans, and fellow Dead insiders, with the enthusiastic support of the band, this collection includes an insert with extensive liner notes detailing how the Dead came to cover each song and when they first performed it live. The cover art is by R. Crumb.
