Woody Shaw – Song Of Songs: Jazz Dispensary
$39.95
Woody Shaw remains one of the most harmonically advanced trumpeters in jazz history, a direct bridge between the hard bop of Lee Morgan and Freddie Hubbard and the more open, modal explorations that followed Coltrane. Recorded in 1972, Song of Songs captures Shaw at a peak creative moment, surrounded by collaborators who could match his ambition note for note.
Song of Songs is the second collection of hard-bop avant-garde musings by legendary trumpeter Woody Shaw on the Contemporary label, produced by Lester and John Koenig. Featuring a heavy-hitting lineup including Benny Maupin, George Cables, and Henry Franklin, this Jazz Dispensary Top Shelf reissue brings the album back on vinyl after five decades, cut from the original analog tapes (AAA) by Kevin Gray, pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing, in a gatefold tip-on jacket.
